Tasty Corner: Cool Down

Is it hot where you are because it is here!  I was up at 6am this morning and it was 75F outside!  We do a lot of entertaining in the summer and one of my biggest struggles is drinks.  Sure you can stick with water, lemonade, and some iced tea but whenever we go somewhere else there are a plethora of mixed drinks that of course I can't partake in.  I've been collecting non-alcoholic drink recipes to have on hand and with the heatwave that has overtaken the country today would be a great day to share some!

Watermelon Cape Codders
Puree 1c cubed watermelon, 2c cranberry juice and 1/4c each grenadine and lemon juice in a blender.  Strain and then pour 3/4c of strained puree into ice filled glasses; top with seltzer and garnish with lemon.

Hibiscus Lime Tea
3/4c dried hibiscus flowers, 1/2c agave syrup, grated zest and juice of 1 lime, plus lime slices for garnish

Bring 4c of water to a boil in a medium saucepan .  Add hibiscus flowers, agave and lime zest and allow to seep 7 to 10 minutes.  Strain through a sieve into a pitcher discarding the solids .  Add lime juice, 2c of cold water and 2 cups of ice.  Serve over ice and garnish with a lime.

Blackberry Lemonade
Muddle 2c blackberries with 2c simple syrup in a pitcher.  Stir in 2c each fresh lemon juice and water; add ice and lemon slices.

Cinnamon Grapefruitade
Make 2 c simple syrup, adding 4 cinnamon sticks before heating.  Let cool, and then pour into an ice-filled pitcher.   Stir in 2 c each fresh grapefruit juice and water and some raspberries.

Lavender Orangeade
Make 2c simple syrup adding 1/4 c dried lavender before heating. Let cool, then strain into an ice-filed pitcher.  Stir in 2 c each fresh orange juice and water, and strips of orange zest.

Hope that you enjoy some of these drinks.  If you have a favorite non-alcoholic cocktail or beverage to share please let us know!
