Tasty Corner Weekend

Hello all!  I just wanted to stop in for a few minutes to let you know about my upcoming weekend.  I will be heading to Chicago to attend the 2010 ISNA convention.  I'm not sure how many of you are in the US but ISNA is the largest Muslim umbrella organization in North America.  Every year over 30,000 Muslims come together for a weekend full of lectures, speeches, food, fun and spiritual inspiration.  It's a great time especially for those of us who live in communities without a large Muslim presence.  I am actually going to be working during the convention for a large part of the time but plan to attend as many things as I can.  Some noteworthy events;

  • My Halal Kitchen will be doing a cooking demo on Saturday and Sunday (Yvonne rocks - can't wait to visit!)
  • Community Service Recognition Luncheon - feature Tariq Ramadan (I'm extremely giddy over this event and have my book handy for a signature.)
  • The film Veiled Voices at the Film Fest
  • Hearing Hamza Yusuf - he is so inspiring and the one imam I have been able to connect to

Not related to the convention but on a personal note - going to the city Sunday night to watch the 4th of July fireworks with my husband!

I'll be tweeting and sharing pictures throughout the convention on Twitter - @marocmama if you'd like to follow.  I'll be back next week with those cookie recipes I promised!!

If any of you will be at ISNA let me know - I would love to meet you.
